Install an SSL certificate (step by step)
Once you have an SSL certificate, it needs to be installed so your site runs on https. You install it yourself, and if you get stuck we are happy to help until it works.
The general steps
- Activate the certificate and complete the validation (for domain validation, you confirm control of the domain).
- Install the issued certificate on your hosting, for the right domain.
- Force https so visitors always use the secure version, and update any internal links to https.
Already have free SSL?
Our hosting includes a free SSL certificate for a secure connection, which is enough for many sites. A paid certificate mainly adds organisation validation and issuer warranties. See the difference in what is an SSL certificate.
